Lyon of Petersburg Wins 2007 CPL All-Star Home Run Derby

Lyon, a member of the American CPL All-Stars, finished with 22 total points to defeat Spartanburgs Kyle Bowley (USC-Upstate) of the National All-Star team in the Championship round. Bowley finished with 12 total points.
There were 16 batters, eight for the National and eight for the American. Batters were given eight (8) outs in all three rounds, with the top three batters per club advancing to the second round. Then the top two hitters, Bowley and Lyon, advanced to the Championship round.

Chris Swauger (Thomasville) 1 homer for 3 points
Kyle Bowley (Spartanburg) 1 homer for 3 points
Richard Jones (Thomasville), Rob Lyerly (Asheboro), Rich Poythress (Thomasville), Kevin Mattison (Edenton), Eddie Van Es (Peninsula), and Kyle Roller (Thomasville) all had no home runs.
American-
Mike Lyon (Petersburg) 4 homers for 12 points
Frank Pesanello (Petersburg) 3 homers for 9 points
Jason Morales (Fayetteville) 1 homer for 3 points
Tim Alberts (Spartanburg) 1 homer for 3 points
Christian Rosa (Florence), Stephen Batts (Wilmington), Jerry Sands (Wilson), and Justin Greene (Columbia) all had no home runs.
Second Round:
National -
Swauger (Thomasville) 1 homer for 3 points / 6 points total
Bowley (Spartanburg) 2 homers for 6 points / 9 points total
American -
Lyon (Petersburg) 3 homers for 9 points / 21 total points

The Coastal Plain League is the nations hottest summer collegiate baseball league, now in its 10th season. Featuring 15 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia, the CPL is certified by Major League Baseball, and gives college players the chance to refine their skills with wooden bats during the summer months.
